Bed Wood

There are many types of wood you can use to complete your bed. From  prefab pieces to DIY, I chose to DIY mine. So I headed to my local HD and found a nice piece if 3\4 birch, had a cut at 78″ then ripped two at 11.5 ending with three pieces.

I used the specs of routing out 1 inch by 1/8 deep on the sides and tail gate side. Rails got 5/8 wide, 1/8 deep. The gas filler was also routed. I found the gas fillers to be very costly, average $100 bucks! I found a push/open chrome one on eBay, new for $30. Underside was sealed in black, topside stained with light walnut. All in for this project was $130.
